Jake Segrest for Congress
The biggest problem with Congress is that they do not tackle the issues of the day, just look at what is happening in Congress right now. You do not need a poll to tell you that the number one problem today is jobs, just look at the unemployment rates. Do you think that any other government faced with double digit unemployment reaches the conclusion that universal health care is what they should focus on? No. Not even France would try to pass such an expensive expansion of government during an economic down turn. The problem is that this is simply a symptom of a much larger problem. For most members of Congress this is simply the big business of politics and the name of the game is expanding the power of Washington D.C., and promoting the special interests that get you elected. They do this regardless of which party is in power and try to hide what they do with the shear volume of the text that is intentionally generated to hide such things.
The problem is vast and encompasses professional politicians on both sides of the aisle. The Republicans were not much different than the Democrats when they controlled Congress. We need people in Congress that will not look at this as a career, rather, as a duty to be undertaken by average citizens for short periods of time. We need people who will regard their values more seriously than the party or party leadership. People who will listen to their constituents and do not have a need to be immortalized, or to leave some sort of legacy. Above all they should simply want to do right by the people and their nations future through means that are consistent with our founding documents and with methods that do not infringe upon our freedom.
